The primary responsibility of this position is to assist in preparing and executing payroll for multiple companies in multiple states. Candidate must have an overall understanding of payroll and post payroll process flows from the point of data capture through gross to net calculation to include processing or analyzing complex payments, processing non-cash fringe benefits/awards and related gross up, garnishments, tax withholding calculations and calculating workups for over-payments and retroactive pay from a payroll perspective and/or general perspective.

  • Prepare and execute multiple payrolls with varying pay schedules in multiple states
  • Processing of all off-cycle calculations and payments including bonuses, draws, reimbursements,  garnishments, and any adjustments/corrections in a timely manner
  • Strive to maintain payroll accuracy and improve efficiency
  • Review data from time-collection systems for accuracy before processing payroll
  • Audit HSA, Flex, Dependent Care and 401K contributions
  • Process employee payroll related changes transmitted from HR, such as benefit changes
  • Process support orders, garnishments and tax levies within current federal and state regulations
  • Analyze, identify and resolve paycheck discrepancies
  • Maintain current knowledge of applicable federal and state wage, hour and tax laws for multiple states
  • Perform banking functions: notify the bank of voids, stop payments and review notices regarding the inability to direct deposit to employee accounts
  • Prepare payroll reports for internal and external audits
  • Develop and maintain written policies and procedures
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned

Supervision: No direct reports.

Required Skills:

  • 2+ years payroll experience
  • Experience managing multiple clients or complex projects with demonstrated results
  • Excel skills
  • Proficient with other MS products (Internet Explorer, Outlook, Word)
  • Must be a quick learner and able to adjust to a fast paced, demanding environment
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines managing multiple priorities
  • Advanced experience and knowledge of payroll software and or HR Information Systems
  • Understanding of Health and Welfare Benefits Administration including regulatory compliance
  • Advanced analytical, technical and problem-solving skills and abilities
  • Strong organizational, time management and prioritization abilities
  • Understands and analyzes the impact of changing priorities and balances resources appropriately
  • Ability to deal with sensitive and confidential information
  • Detail oriented
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Demonstrates active listening, critical thinking, sound judgment, and persuasion skills
  • Ability to solve complex problems and deal with a variety of work situations
  • Basic understanding of general accounting
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision

Preferred Skills:

Experience with ADP, iSolved, Intuit Payroll Services, and Paychex Payroll

Experience with HR self-service tools
